Kuranda Restaurants & Cafes

Kuranda dining experiences are as diverse as their multicultural community. Most places serve real home-style cooking, expect nummy food experiences with yes, some waiting time longer than usual but hey, it is worth the wait and you are supporting locals doing it hard with the current situation.

Common opening times for business are 10am to 2:30pm (lunch service usually finish at 1:30pm) however, be sure to check beforehand.

Night-time dining is VERY limited and most businesses open Thursday to Sunday with some exceptions.

The Kuranda Markets are open Thursday to Sunday 10:00am to 3:00pm, with a wide range of stalls offering locally produced souvenirs, restaurants & cafés, arts & crafts, jewellery, gemstones & clothing.

How many markets there are in Kuranda?

Kuranda has two market locations, the Original Markets and the Heritage Markets, both of which are open Thursday to Sunday.

Are there any restaurants in Kuranda open for dinner?

Kuranda Veranda Restaurant is a local’s favourite offering Italian- French cuisine. Opening times are 3pm to 9pm.

Wotta Bout Fish ‘n’ Chips – (strange name – you have to say it fast) – is the best value for money fish and chips in Kuranda, they open till 8pm however last order taken is 7:30pm.

Big Forest Café’s speciality is the unique Puk Summi rice Burgers amongst other a range of Asian fusion home-style food. Thursday, Friday and Saturday open till 8pm.

Are there take away options?

Yes, most of the restaurants in Kuranda offer take away options, but note the opening times

Is there a pub in Kuranda?

There are two pubs in Kuranda: The Barron Falls Hotel, which has a bottle shop and The Kuranda Hotel (Bottom Pub) counter meals are “occasional” so check before you go.

Do any of the restaurants cater to vegan or vegetarian?

Yes, Kuranda is a very vegetarian/vegan-friendly village and most of the restaurants offer vegan and vegetarian options. La Fonda Restaurant and Fruibis are vegan only cafes with delicious, locally sourced organic produce.

Are card payments accepted in Kuranda?

Most places accept card, but there are quite a few who do not, so cash is recommended. There is an ATMs next to the IGA Supermarket, one in the main street opposite the pub and one in the BP Servo.

What time are restaurants open to in Kuranda?

Most restaurants and Cafés keep “tourism hours” from 10am – 2:00pm over the weekends and those that open weekdays, 10am to 1:30pm. It is highly advised to check before leaving as many businesses have different opening times, depending on the day, and some only trade Thursday to Sunday.
